That very night I went home and called the college. Partly because Kale was afraid for me. Partly because I just wanted to get the painful goodbye over with. I knew I would come home eventually. But for now I would be separated from the only sim in my life I couldn't live without. It was a twist of fate I had been dealt and would now have to live with.
Kale promised to look after Daxter and the house. He seemed relieved to watch me go. I knew it was because he wanted to keep me safe. I didn't know much about Kanoa but he seemed demented enough to harm me. Therefore, I guess I was also relieved to be going away.
On a random side note, Kale (with my permission) ended up kicking Alani out. He recieved a call in the middle of the night about her crazy werewolf boyfriend attacking her. I can deal with housefires, leaving the kitchen a mess constantly, and even parties once in a while. But an angry werewolf is one supernatural I want nothing to do with. Kale made sure Alani found a safe place, but thankfully that safe place was no longer my house.
Back to college, I arrived in my dorm room and decorated my space very...bright, as Kale would put it. I was settling in when I heard more people arrive downstairs and thought I would take a peek.
A guy shook my hand and introduced himself. "I'm Anoki Petras, nice to meet you." I was trying to figure out how to politely ask for my hand back when he leaned in and whispered for my ears only. "Kale sent me. I'm a cousin. I'm here for your protection." I immediately relaxed. Kale was really looking out for me the best he could.
The first few weeks of college I felt completely distracted. It was silly really. I needed a business degree, Kale was practical in wanting me to get one. But I missed him terribly and found that I worried about him constantly. I found it hard to concentrate on friendships and most people just thought I was a daydreamer. Luckily, Anoki and my awesome roommate, Tammy Parker, seemed to understand me.
One day, towards the end of the term, Tammy called me over. "Hey, the frat guys are throwing one last party, we should all go!" Tammy didn't know that Anoki was my body guard and had a huge crush on him. "I don't know if that's a good idea, Tammy." I managed to state weakly.
Anoki argued. "You haven't been to any parties this whole term, Holly! For Sims Sake, live a little!" Tammy clapped her hands. "Well put, Anoki. You heard the man, tonight we party!" I had misgivings but decided it was better than staying at home moping around. "Fine, I'll go." Tammy hugged me and squealed once more for good measure.
Later that night...
As we entered the party I felt my stomach leap into my throat. What was I thinking coming here? Kale was trying to protect me and here I was at a Juice Keg party with frat boys! I could hear Kale's lecture in my head already. Anoki squeezed my hand, "It will be fine."
30 minutes later...
Anoki was on his second keg as I stood in shock watching him. I really did trust he would look out for me at this party and now it looked like I would have to watch out for him. I stared in a mixture of surprise and horror as he stumbled away from the keg and walked right passed me. Body guard getting super-juiced the first night I really needed a body guard? Yep, so something that would happen to me.Suddenly, I noticed a sim eyeing me. I felt unsettled as he looked at me as if calculating something. He hesitated before walking over.
He extended his hand and grabbed mine before I react. "The name's Jared. Jared Johnson. And I have a message from someone you know." I swallowed hard. Kanoa. Was he here? I felt my palms sweat. "He wants me to let you know that this little incident with your little security guard is nothing." Jared leaned in leering. "He also asks 'Do you feel Safe?'"
Words cannot describe that moment. That feeling that someone is watching your every move, carefully planning your demise. For the first time, I really began to feel what Kale had been feeling all along. That impression you get of someone. That gut feeling you get that tells you to run. I had that now.
Luckily, a sim had overheard at least part of the situation. He spoke very calmly behind Jared. "I hope you aren't threatening our guest, Jared. Prison is so unbecoming." Jared clenched his fist. I used this moment to flee. I didn't look for Anoki or Tammy. I just ran as fast as I could back to the dorm.
Once I got there I locked the door and turned out the light. I felt so hopeless. What had I gotten myself into? I cried myself to sleep.
The next day I skipped classes and stayed in my room studying. I just wasn't ready to face the world and all its uncertainty. As the semester was drawing to a close, Kale would call several times a week to check up on me. I genuinely loved my classes and would talk about them and my professors. I didn't tell him about the threat at the frat party, mostly because I didn't want him to make me quit school. I wanted to earn my degree even if Kanoa tried to scare me every step of the way.
Finals came and went. I passed with flying colors! I was so relieved the semester was over that I really didn't think ahead to next semester.
As I said goodbye to everyone, I avoided talking to Anoki. I know he wanted to apologize but I just wasn't ready to hear it yet. He had put me in danger and if it wasn't for that intuitive stranger who knows what might have happened.
The next day I packed up. I couldn't wait to see Kale, even if it was only for a few weeks.
