Lyddia and I were at home once again, having another boring day. Kale had started at the Hidden Springs Fire Station, and Kyle had found some work in law enforcement. I wouldn't be starting my job in business for another week. Luckily, Kale and I would be getting married in two more days. Lyddia threw down the remote. "We got to get out of here, I'm going stir crazy!" She looked at me and brightened. "Your dress! Let's go look for a wedding dress." I couldn't think of a reason not to, and we took off looking for some place to shop.
Aside from the fact that we had to walk all over town (since Kyle and Kale had both vehicles) we some how ended up in front of a consignment store. Lyddia looked hopeful, I felt doubtful. "We're bound to find something in here." She opened the door. "After all, Hidden Springs is a town of wealthy people. " I found it rather ironic that Kale probably had millions of simoleons and here we were at a consignment store. Still, I reallly hadn't seen any kind of mall, and I didn't mind buying used.
As I tried on the dress, which look like it had been custom made, Lyddia smiled. "Oh wow, you look really good." She paused. "Not that you don't normally look good, its just-" I interrupted. "I know what you mean, Lyddia." We both stared into the mirror smiling. "This is it Lyddia. This is the dress!" We both errupted into giggling.
Our Wedding Night, I wore the dress with long white gloves. I really hadn't thought about my scars, but didn't have time to find something to cover them with. I hope I looked okay, or at least not like a freak as I walked down the aisle.
Lyddia started crying, much to Kyle's surprise. She always tended to act tough around him. Even though they had been dating awhile, she didn't get really emotional. Or cry ever. Kyle didn't seem to know what to do. He took her hand awkwardly.
Kale put the ring on my finger and I held my breath. We had been through so much to reach this moment. This small hiatus of happiness, that was all the more precious because of what we had endured. Separation, because of college. My near death, ordered by Kale's own brother. Kale had told me after the trial ,when we were married, he wanted to change his last name to Graham. I protested but to no avail. Kale no longer wanted to be associated with his brother, not even in name. So thus, we became Mr. & Mrs. Graham.
I kissed Kale, in a happy daze.
Married! After years of hardship, we were more than a couple, more than engaged, we were husband and wife! Nothing could take away how happy we were right now. Kyle shouted. "Are you two just going to stare at each other or do we get to go to the reception?" I rolled my eyes and Kale laughed.
Once we arrived at Hologram, Kale ordered energy drinks for everyone for the entire night. Kyle was thrilled and the patrons who were there seemed happy. I was amazed at how well Hologram was doing. Kale had bought it, renovated it, and was already turning quite a profit in Hidden Springs. It was surprising considering we were new comers, who had no connections. Kale smiled at me and winked as he escorted me to the dance floor.
Kale pulled me close and we danced. I stared up at him, noticing the finer details of his face. He was quite a bit older than me, but he was aging well. His features seemed even more chiseled than when we first met. He was more muscular, more confident, more self assured. I remembered him confiding to me years ago that if he had a family he would protect them, take care of them. I knew it was true then, and even more now. Kale hadn't hardly let me out of his sight since the accident. Every day he seemed to appreciate the fact that I was with him, alive. The only thing that still truly bothered me about the accident was that I had scars. I really could care less about Kanoa, he was in jail now and hadn't succeeded in killing me. Kale smiled down at me, "What are you thinking about?" I sighed not wanting to admit it. "My scars." Kale laughed, "Silly, beautiful woman." He kissed me then.
The club switched to blacklight and we some how found our way to a corner and spent the better part of the evening kissing there. I felt butterflies and tingly all over. Each kiss brought us closer and closer. We left the club, ready to be home. Home. Our home.
We made our way to the master bedroom, both of us wanting more. We had both waited for this for so long that now that it was our wedding night, all our desires that had been bottled and put to the side, raced to us. It was almost painful how badly I wanted to be with Kale right then. Kale turned off the light, and we entered our own oasis of bliss.
The next morning (or afternoon rather) Kale and I went down to the kitchen, ready to find something to eat. I really wasn't in the mood to cook, but looked through the cabinets anyway. I finally settled on something that wasn't too hard and sounded good.
Kale took a bite. "Key Lime Pie? Interesting choice but I do like it." I laughed. "Well I really didn't want to try to eat a whole meal not after.." I felt my face grow red and threw down my fork. Kale teased me. " You really do get embarrassed easily, wife." He raised an eyebrow at me. "And to think our first date you tried to take me home." I swallowed the pie I was eating and promptly choked on it. After sputtering and coughing I was able to squeak out. "That's because I read you wrong. I thought that's what you wanted." Kale stood laughing. "Well, I am glad you know me better now than then. " He winked and stood clearing his plate.
"For example, I don't take girls home until the second date." He smiled, clearly enjoying joking about everything. He looked around, though no one was home. "And we've been on how many dates now? And now I have you home alone..." the front door slammed shut.
Lyddia entered the kitchen, still dressed in her clothes from the reception party. "Man, last night was fun! What is that smell? OH! Key Lime Pie my favorite!" She grabbed a slice.
She suddenly seemed to realize we were having a "couple moment". She spoke making a bee line for the door. "Don't mind me, just grabbing some pie and headed to my room." She paused. "Without Kyle, I mean he's home just in his room not mine. Wow, is it awkward in here? I'm gone!" Were her last words as she left the room.
Kale gave me a resigned look and I felt my lip pout. "We have house guests." Kale stated and sighed. I nodded. "Just for awhile. Until they get on their feet." Kale scratched his chin as if deep in thought. "What if we just bought them a house?" I laughed. Kale continued. "It could work! Maybe ten minutes away." He looked at me thoughtfully, "Better make it twenty minutes away." I grinned, I couldn't help it. We were a married couple. Mr. & Mrs. Graham.
