Graham Legacy (2) The First Date
So the fire didn't shake Alani from using the stove whatsoever! She left it on again when she left for work. I got home and was able to turn it off before another fire ensued. I really need to have a serious talk with her about fire, and home insurance and being a good renter! Luckily, I don't have to think about that now, because I have a date with a fireman!
I met Kale Perez at the local hotspot, and felt completely nervous. He had saved my kitchen less than two days ago and I was more than shocked he wanted to go out with me. I had been screaming like a banshee the last time we met and was surprised I left a good impression whatsoever. Maybe he just wanted a one night stand. I greeted him nervously.
Me: Glad you could make it!
Kale: Wow, your outfit looks.....bright.
Me: *mumbled* Thanks
At this point I knew my outfit was way too....? I don't know exactly, but Kale's amused comment on my attire made me feel the need for a drink. I ordered us a round, thankful my boss wasn't here to see me make a fool of myself.
Kale: Oh wow, you know I haven't drank in so long, have to remain sober most the time for my job.
Me: Uh huh *motions to the barkeep to keep the rounds coming* so tell me about yourself I know you fight fires but I want to know more.
Kale picks up a drink and smiles at me. "Well, not a whole lot to tell. I'm a firefighter, been a bachelor forever, and lived in this town since before I can remember." He winked at me. "But you, Miss Holly, well your different. Your clearly not from here and definitely from somewhere and I am interested to hear your story."
What do you say to that? I told him what little there was to tell about my life in the big city: I grew up in foster care, worked odd jobs to pay exceedingly high rent, and recieved my great aunt's house after she died. As the night drew on I also confided that I was afraid my roommate would burn down my house and I would die alone.
Kale confessed that he despised his older brother Kanoa who constantly cheated on his wife, even though they had two kids together. And he was afraid he would die before he had his own family. "If I had a family, I would treat them right!" He slammed his fist on the counter, "And look at my brother, he has one and he doesn't care."
I ordered one more round as it was approaching closing hours. I was intoxicated, but not nearly as much as Kale. I assumed we would be going to his or my place soon. I smiled and kept saying how funny he was. Sometimes, when I try to communicate, I am sure that somewhere a wordsmith cries.
Kale leaned in to flirt back. I could smell the energy drink on his breath ;) I cleared my throat, "So, your place or mine?" I didn't want to seem desperate, but some form of romance was better than none. Kale chuckled, "You ma'am, are tempting me beyond belief but I must decline your request."
I felt dumbfounded and embarrassed at the same time. I thought I had read him so well. "Well why-" Kale interrupted me and stated. "You see, I am currently in a very disassembled state and will not take advantage of such a beautiful woman in this present condition."
I felt aggravated and set both our drinks down. "Well, what if I want you to? Don't I get a say in this?" Kale gazed at me and even in his drunken state looked genuinely disappointed. "Is that what you want to be to me?" He shook his head. "I care about you too much for that."
He then twisted me around and kissed me firmly on the lips. I was taken aback by this action and felt butterflies.
Kale smiled that same amused smile at me. "And now my dear future wife, I must hail a cab and go home before I change my mind." And with that, he walked out the door.
